The 2025 Oscar nominations have been unveiled, showcasing a year of remarkable cinematic achievements.
Despite initial delays caused by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences proceeded with the announcement on January 23.
Leading the pack with 13 nominations is Emilia Pérez, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director (Jacques Audiard), Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón), and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña). The Brutalist and Wicked follow closely with 10 nominations each.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang opened the ceremony by addressing the challenges faced during this awards season due to the wildfires, which caused extensive destruction in Los Angeles.
They emphasized honoring the nominated filmmakers while paying tribute to the resilience of the film industry and the courage of first responders.
The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, hosted by Conan O’Brien.
